74/100

LEGO Star Wars Battles is a surprisingly competent entry into the crowded mobile RTS genre, heavily borrowing from the Clash Royale formula but injecting it with enough Star Wars charm and unique mechanics to stand on its own. The addition of building actual LEGO towers on the map adds a territorial control aspect that makes matches feel more dynamic than just sending units down a lane. The animations are delightful, and seeing an army of stormtroopers get wiped out by a single lightsaber throw from Yoda never gets old.

The game's primary issue lies in its matchmaking system. Because progression is tied to trophy counts rather than unit levels, if you go on a winning streak, you will quickly find yourself matched against players with significantly higher-level bases and upgraded cards. This creates sudden, frustrating walls where tactical superiority isn't enough to overcome raw numerical disadvantages, leading to an unfair feeling in competitive play.

Additionally, playing this on a Mac is a bit clunky. It's clearly a direct port of the mobile version, lacking keyboard shortcuts and forcing a portrait-style window with large borders. Despite these flaws, it remains a fantastic, ad-free time killer on the iPhone for any Star Wars or LEGO fan, offering deep enough deck-building to keep you engaged for weeks.

Dinsun Review

Look, I love Star Wars and I love LEGO, but I’ve seen this game a hundred times before. It’s essentially a reskin of the lane-based strategy formula that has dominated mobile for years. It’s well-made, I’ll give it that—the LEGO animations are cute and it’s always satisfying to drop a Darth Vader on the board—but it’s not doing anything new. It’s a 'safe' game, designed to appeal to everyone and consequently, it feels a bit bland to a veteran player.

The matchmaking is decent, but like most of these games, it often comes down to who has the higher-level cards rather than who is the better strategist. Since it’s on Apple Arcade, there’s no paying to win, which is the only reason this game is even playable. If this had microtransactions, I’d tell you to run for the hills. As it stands, it’s a distraction for Star Wars fans, but don't expect it to replace your main strategy game.
